Learning Specialist Services
What is a Learning Specialist and how is this different from tutoring/academic coaching?
A Learning Specialist's role is to support students with learning strategies, organization, and study skills; they provide individual instruction as appropriate, and serve as a liaison between the parents, children, school, etc. While tutoring encompasses content and comprehension, academic coaching usually focuses on accountability and improvement in executive functioning skills. A learning specialist is usually trained to evaluate and assist children with learning disabilities. They work with the parents, child, and the child's school to develop strategies to compensate for any learning deficits. In addition, they act as teachers who provide specialized educational support to individuals or groups of students who are struggling academically at school.
